Taking good pictures, one needs good gear and building your gear kit can be an expensive proposition.

The quality of the glass, and changes in f-stop values can set you back in thousands. One just has to decide on what photographs they want to take and what lenses you can live with to get the pictures you want.

Some have argued with me over the years that they don’t need all this gear as their IPhone takes good pictures. I don’t disagree. Sure you can take good pictures with a phone camera especially when you are out for a stole and something catches your fancy. But start blowing up that picture and the difference is stark clear. Throw in a dimension of fast moving objects like birds in flight and there is no compare.

Lets be honest if we talk figuratively, the image sensor on your phone would be like the width of a match stick while a camera sensor a little larger than a dimension of an SD card. An image is reciprocal to the light that falls on the sensor and a camera’s sensor just gets more light on it thus retaining more detail and clarity.

However, for that camera sensor to absorb good detail needs a good piece of glass that absorbs the light and as I said above, that can be an expensive proposition.

If this was a class and there was a show of hands, I think most if not all students would say that their collection of lenses have been more expensive than the camera itself. And so for me too because lenses differ from use. You can have lenses like macro, sports, telephoto, portrait etc. each built for a different purpose.

Within each category prices will range from a few hundred to thousands of dollars. Keeping my budget in mind and what I want to click, below is a list of my gear that I have in my bag.
